Card Values in Blackjack

The cards values are determined in the following manner:

• The Ace can be taken as either 1 or 11.
• All the cards with a number from 2-9 are valued as they are
• The King, Queen, Jack & 10 cards are all valued at 10.

A soft hand is a hand that contains an Ace which can be taken as either 11 or 1 in the game without pushing the total over 21. It keeps the players at low risk of busting the total beyond 21 & permits it to add an ace card to the soft total. However, the hard hand is a situation where an ace card can only be taken as 1 and not 11 as it would make the hard total to go over 21.
